As we kick off the month of October there are opportunities for all of us to be engaged and strengthen our communities.
If your workplace participates in our workplace giving campaign, we would be delighted if you would “Raise Your Hand” and invest in our communities through payroll contributions. These dollars stay in our communities and donating $1 a paycheck makes a great difference to neighbors in need.
Dollars given through workplace giving campaigns allow us to support 20+ nonprofit programs! Together we provide resources and solutions that matter to our communities.
Our Socktober campaign is also underway! We will be collecting socks and basic needs to distribute to our community. This year supplies will be put to good use as there will be two Project Community Connect days in both Wabasha and Goodhue counties. You can find drop-off locations in Red Wing, Cannon Falls, and Lake City.
On Monday, October 9th I would encourage all of you to participate in the Honoring Dakota Mural Wopida. There will be a ceremony from 4 to 6 p.m. at the mural, followed by a community meal at the Red Wing Public Library from 6 to 8 p.m. I hope to meet new community members and look forward to this gathering.
Later in this month we will have an Empty Bowl fundraiser to support our Packing for the Weekend program. Our goal is to ensure that no child living in our service area be without food during out of school time. Hunger and poor nutrition impact physical growth and brain development.
This event will be a great opportunity for you to learn more about Packing for the Weekend, support programming and enjoy delicious soups. There will be live music and a chance to win door prizes too. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Red Wing Arts Depot and the United Way office.
Please join us on October 22nd!
In gratitude,
Nicolle Mechelke
