Thank you - Thank you - Thank you!

Our School Supply Drive Event held in Red WIng was extremely successful again this year. Thank you to everyone who donated, collected supplies, and volunteered. This event would not be possible without all of you and your amazing efforts.

This year we packed 150 backpacks geared to an elementary student and 150 backpacks geared to a middle school/high school student.

300 backpacks

that included

9417 school supply items!

We were joined that evening with many wonderful volunteers, RiseUp Red Wing provided hygiene products, and the Elks provided a meal for those who came to choose a backpack.

Remember, save your receipts for school supplies

Minnesota families may get a tax break for the back-to-school supplies they purchase.

Families that save receipts for qualifying purchases might be eligible to claim K-12 tax benefits on their state income tax return, the Minnesota Department of Revenue says.

Two tax benefits can help Minnesota families pay expenses related to their child’s education:

To qualify for either program, you must:

  • Have a qualifying child attending kindergarten through 12th grade at a public, private, or qualified home school.
  • Have paid “qualified education expenses” during the year for that child’s education.

Note: You may not use the same qualified education expenses to claim both the subtraction and the credit.

Learn more by visiting the Minnesota Department of Revenue website links highlighted above or consult a tax professional.

To help more students and families this year we are hosting another School Supply Pick Up Event in Cannon Falls this week! See details below.

And the winner is....

We would like to thank Red Wing Bicycle Co. and all of the wonderful, local businesses that supported our raffle. It was well-received by individuals and by both our nonprofit and business community. Throughout the summer, staff, board, committee members and other helpers sold tickets at community events, at family gatherings and throughout the region.

Red Wing Bicycle Co. was our premier sponsor, and we are most appreciative of their support. Owner Andrew Petersen said he was happy to be part of this, as it aligned with what they want to do as a store-to be able to help the community; and foster the growth of the United Way.

The Trek Ebikes generated a lot of interest and Petersen said they are a great equalizer. He shared the bikes can help people ride further, faster, and even help individuals who took a break from cycling. He also added that Trek is a great family company, one that supports their customers, dealers and they provide an excellent product.

Petersen relayed that our region and the way communities interact with one another is unique, and there is a demographic of people that are willing to support civic opportunities.

We thank Red Wing Bicycle Co. for partnering with us and fellow businesses and organizations that helped us with all of our prizes!

Proceeds from this raffle go towards the support we provide to our 20+ program partners.

Thank you to everyone who purchased a ticket, and congratulations to all of the winners!

Winners: Please call our office at 651-388-6309 to arrange for the pick-up of your prize!
